A research program was initiated to develop strategies for improving railroad tank cars so they can maintain tank integrity for more severe accident conditions than current equipment. The research was initiated by The Dow Chemical Company (Dow), Union Pacific Railroad, and Union Tank Car Company, working under a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Federal Railroad Administration, and Transport Canada, and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration.
